Beware of faulty assumptions in your job search. One of your fellow Tip of the Week subscribers wrote in with to share how his faulty interview assumption lost him the job offer. He wrote:

“Your article about Interviews is very good and informative. You can include one more thing. Never assume on the Interviewer. One should be thoroughly prepared for all types of questions. I assumed the person who was interviewing me as a business guy. But he was technical too. He asked me in-depth technical questions till I fell down. This happened because I assumed that this gentleman is a Business Guy and didn’t know about the technical aspects. Just thought of sharing my experience since you will be giving your readers these tit-bits.”

As the above job seeker pointed out, the best way to avoid faulty interview assumptions is to prepare for all situations. Assume several scenarios and prepare for each. Understand the various types of interview styles:

  • Stress
  • Panel
  • Situational
  • Hypothetical
Assume that your interviewer could use any or all of the above and be prepared with answers that showcase your accomplishments to fit any interview situation.

Remember, when it comes to interviews, there is no such thing as over prepared.
